The Pax by Ploom is fast becoming the ultimate hipster’s accessory for the modern enthusiast. Standing about as tall as an iPhone, the Pax appears to share more than just its dimensions with the popular technology brand. With its compact size, super sleek design and futuristic appearance, you would almost mistake this for some new whizzy gadget that has come out of the Apple stable.
In fact, the external shell of the Pax uses anodized aluminum, just like a MacBook, and not just for its sleek, superior looks either. This material is durable and food safe, and also serves to spread excess heat around the surface preventing damage to the plastic components. All the plastics in the device are food safe materials, and the vapor path itself is constructed from medical grade materials. The mouthpiece itself is recessed to maintain the sleek appearance, but rises out for use with a gentle prod.
Although not actually the latest iPod or smartphone, the Pax by Ploom does have a few high tech surprises underneath that slick exterior. One such delight is the in-built accelerometer, which is a motion sensor to you and I. If the device doesn’t move for 20 seconds, it drops the heat to a lower setting (around 150 C) to conserve battery. As soon as it is picked up it returns to the last temperature setting used. If it sits still for three minutes or more, it switches off completely.
The battery itself is also worth a mention, as the robust 2600 mAh lithium ion battery holds enough charge for up to two hours of continuous use. When it does need recharging, the included plug in charging dock makes a battery boost super simple. The Pax by Ploom is fully charged from empty in under two hours, but don’t worry if you forget to take it off, because the smart charge technology inside the device means battery efficiency is actively managed and it cannot be overcharged.
Using the Pax couldn’t be easier. The lid easily pops off to allow access to the oven chamber, then you simply press the mouthpiece down to turn it on. The LED indicator lets you know when your desired temperature has been reached, which is usually only about 30 seconds or so, and then it’s ready for use.
The heating chamber heats your aromatherapy blend absolutely evenly, avoiding the risk of combusting the product and releasing harmful carcinogens and chemicals into your vapor. The end result is a super smooth, super safe vapor that really delivers on taste. In our opinion there really is no better in the portable market in terms of results.
Of course, the cost may put some off. $250 is a lot to shell out for a portable vape, but if you’re looking for something that really does the job and will last forever, the Pax by Ploom is the one to choose. And if you’re at all worried about the durability, don’t be. Ploom have backed up their claims for the robustness of this device with a generous 10 year warranty in the unlikely event that something does go wrong.
