Released in 2013, the Ascent is the latest offering from DaVinci. We have been so impressed with the original DaVinci that we were very keen to review the Ascent.

The Ascent is a portable that works well with dried Blend as well ass and aromatherapy waxes.

Perhaps the first thing that you will notice about the Ascent is its appearance. This is a beautifully designed that has smooth, sexy lines and an elegant appearance. It looks a bit like a flip phone and comes in three finishes. You can choose the Stealth model in understated black, the Croc Skin with its 100% genuine leather finish, or the stunning Burl Wood model with it’s classy wood finish.

The Ascent is considerably smaller than the DaVinci, at just 4.47″ X 2.24″ X 1.03″ (11.9cm  5.7cm 2.6cm), and is easy to stash away out of sight in your pocket or bag. At 6.8oz it weighs about the same as the DaVinci.

The Ascent offers excellent functionality for such a small, portable unit. The glass on glass technology allows for a smooth clean draw that is pure and uncontaminated by plastics or metals. Accurate temperature is ensured by precision digital controls which are accessed by the integrated OLED display. Readouts include current temperature, personal vape cycles and a programmable motion timer.

Another welcome innovation on the Ascent is the patented dual mouthpiece which works either natively or via the supplied glass mouthpiece. The entire air path is glass on glass with an internal glass sleeve inside the unit to house the extendable glass straw. A silicone sleeve prevents breakage and slippage of the glass stem. Even the screen is glass!

The Ascent has power as well as precision and the glass lined, ceramic bowl will heat up to 430oF in just 55 seconds. The power itself comes from two, internal Panasonic IMR Hybrid High Drain 18650 2250mAH Li-Ion batteries which will provide up to three hours use with one charge.

Ease of use has been an essential part of the Ascent design process. Loading the flip out bowl is a cinch and the two operation buttons (the power button and the digital control button) are intuitive and right where you would expect them to be.

The manufacturers of the Ascent already have their eye on the future with some customizations in the p-line for 2014 which will include custom mouthpieces, a steampunk design that allows the user to see the vapor trail inside the unit and a “surprise” for the grill.

Overall the Ascent is a fantastic piece of equipment and one that knocks the competition out of the water. It has been designed by experts with the serious vaper in mind. DaVinci have set the bar high with the Ascent and this model will take some beating.
